Stephen has expanded his office's ballot tracking system, given over 125 election tours, launched a new website with easy-to-access information, reduced response times on email inquiries, spoken at over 100 community groups and political clubs, created instructional videos, offered more analytics on Maricopa County voting, improved the office's call center, and has written over 25 articles and reports on election administration.
SECURE EARLY VOTING
Over 85% of Maricopa County votes early. Stephen has overseen smooth, successful, problem-free early voting in eight election administrations.
He has improved early voting by enhancing signature verification with additional training and audits, adding chain of custody documentation, and improving voter access by adding new methods of ballot curing (such as text-to-cure) and increasing special election boards to visit special-needs residents.
CLEAN VOTER LISTS
When Stephen took office in January 2021, Maricopa County had approximately 2.6 million active registered voters. Now, despite being the fastest growing county in the United States, Maricopa County has 2.5 million active registered voters.
Stephen has invested heavily in voter roll hygiene by building a new voter registration database, utilizing new interstate voter lists, and performing new audits of voter lists. At the same time as he worked to improve voter list accuracy, Stephen has also worked closely with political parties and community groups to ensure all legally eligible voters have easy access to voter registration.
